UN travaux préparatoires · search by meaning

Ask

Ask a question or describe what you are looking for in a sentence, in plain words. Ask returns the passages of the records that match its meaning, even when they use other words; it does not write an answer.

Experimental. Your question is sent to Voyage AI, a commercial service, to be matched with the passages; it is not kept by this site. Ask works on sentences: in a test on 579 claims from two commentaries on the Covenants, the record a commentary cites was among the first ten passages for 82% of the claims written as a sentence, but for 26% of them written as a few keywords, where Search did better (47%). Search remains the tool for finding every passage with a word. How Ask works, and how well

A sentence works best: who proposed, argued or decided what, on which right.

    Check

Paste a text that cites the drafting records (a draft, a chapter, a brief). Every UN symbol in it is held against the record it names: is the document here, is the cited page or paragraph in it, does the delegate or delegation named with it speak there, and is the quotation just before it in the record, word for word.

Your text is checked on this server and kept nowhere. It reads citations such as E/CN.4/SR.60, p. 7 (Malik, Lebanon), A/C.3/SR.290, paras. 7–15 or U.N. Doc. A/C.3/SR.290, ¶ 7 (1950). The records are machine-read summary records: a quotation that differs by a word may be the OCR, so open the record and its scan.
